Welcome to QiX.synth.net, what is it you're asking yourselves?
Well, that has yet to be fully defined but I'll tell what we're hoping to acheive.

A while back I got into the Sound-Art Chameleon in a big way but soon found I ran out of power to do things. I also wished for things to be a little more open so that I could add extra hardware and make changes to the OS.

About a year ago, I was contacted by 'T' (his name must remain hidden for a while) about taking the Chameleon concept to the next stage. I was excited and we talked at great length about where we'd like it to go.

Then a few months back I got myself a motorola 5251 development board, the idea was to use this as the main CPU for the improved Chameleon. The reason being is that it has a lot of the extra nice things that were missing from the original, things like USB, SD card, IDE interfaces, colour display and so on.
The other nice thing is that I can run Linux on it, all be it a trimmed down version, but none the less, an open OS.

At this point 'J' stepped in (another who's name needs to remain a secret for a while), he also has a 5251 board and has been making great steps towards getting Linux on the board, and more importantly integrating MIDI-Share into the kernal.

My job, if you like, is to tie these bits together and to build the hardware. Things like the control panel, Midi interface, link from the 5251 to the DSP.

So there you have it, our aims, and who's doing what. You can keep track of up to the minute information in the blog and there will also be a forum which will be open to all to exchange ideas and advice, as well as to get feedback on what things you'd like to see.

oh, why QiX? I have an obsession with 80's arcade games and its quite short.
